Void Bastards has been out for a while on Xbox One and Windows PC but May 7th was the launch onto the PlayStation 4 and Switch. Void Bastards takes pages from many games like System Shock and Bioshock and adds a spin of rouge-like to that with a very comic book style art to give a fun and interesting time in space.

The gameplay loop for the game is simple but has a lot of depth and offers a good bit of variety and content. The story is not in your face with this game instead it wants you to dive headfirst into the gameplay and other systems the game offers. When you start up the game you will be given a random prisoner with their own little quirks and talents. Then you will be tasked to fly around a star system of different depths going around looking for derelict ships and other stations like shops. There are overall goals and items that you are looking for to push the story along but this is really a means of unlocking new things and getting you to move forward. There is a crafting system with you being able to make new weapons and items that can help when you are exploring the ships in the system. Finding parts on these ships will give you resources to build more ammo and items but you will also need to find

certain key items to unlock the ability to use the new upgrades the game offers. But resource management is not the only thing to worry about once you dock onto the access point of the randomly generated ship of your choice then you will have to explore and find whatever it is you are looking for on said ship, there is where the main crux of the game is. Dealing with enemies and other hazards like finding oxygen. Going in guns blazing is not the only option here you can use certain items to help you sneak around and get past enemies. Ships might have ways of getting into certain systems to maybe get into the security system to get rid of cameras or mounted turrets or even open an airlock to whip enemies out to their death in the vacuum of space. Once you found everything on the ship that you can loot you make your way back to where you entered and live back to the safety of your ship. You might die along the way and that is just a fact of life in this world after death all unlocks and items will transfer over to the next unlucky prisoner that is sent out into the fray then you rinse and repeat. The game as loads of good things going for it like the humor and tight and responsive controller. This is a rouge-like that anyone can sink their teeth into not matter if they are a casual player or a hardcore one. But even though there is an ending in the sorts the biggest problem that looms over the game is how it can become very tedious and repetitive. If you can get past that problem there are loads of fun and hours of content to play. OVERALL SCORE: 7.5
